About NC Connect

NC Connect is a complete Internet Service Provider headquartered in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. NC Connect was founded in 1997 and was one of the first locally-owned Internet Service Providers in the Ellwood City area. Our goal is to provide you with the highest quality (both in terms of speed and availability) Internet connection possible.

We are multi-homed with Sprint and UUNET. That means we are connected to the internet over both carriers. If either goes down, all of our traffic is routed through the other carrier. Also, every time you access anything on the internet, our high-speed CISCO 7206VXR router determines whether Sprint or UUNET is the shorter path at that moment and directs your traffic over the faster connection. Sprint and UUNET are two well-known, large backbone carriers with a proven history of performance and reliability.

Our communications equipment is located at the telephone company and is on the same power system as the Telco. The only way we lose power is if the Telco loses power. Further, the equipment is in environmentally controlled and secure cages and is directly connected to Sprint and UUNET without unneeded distance.

All of our sites are 100% digital and support 14.4, 28.8, 33.6, K56FLEX, V.90 and ISDN connections. There is one number for each area and our system will automatically negotiate whatever type of connection you want. There is no surcharge for K56FLEX and V.90 connections, and with our low user to modem ratio, we rarely have a busy signal on our end.

We have a very wide coverage area with over 50 local numbers in the 724 and 412 area codes. That means that you can make a local connection just about anywhere in 724 and 412.

We use CISCO routers and 500 & 600Mhz DEC Alpha servers running DEC Unix with 512Mb (or more) of RAM. These Alpha servers are far faster, more secure, and more reliable than any Pentium system running free Unix software.
